• Are you willing to take a risk? Yes, some people get burned in home-based business scams. But not everyone does. At some point, you have to make the investment of time and possibly money, print up your business cards, and make the commitment. After you've researched things thoroughly, are you willing to take it all the way?
• Establish networks. There are plenty of forums, discussion groups, and mailing lists that will put you in contact with people who have the same goals as you do. Get connected, and there will always be someone there who can answer your questions.

Sometimes the difference between a home-based business that doesn't work and one that does is the preparation that you bring into it. Don't let the horror stories scare you; people can and do make home-based business work.

You can have the greatest home based business idea in the world but without the proper business marketing no one knows you exist. You can have a really nice website for your home based business but it will still never be found without a directed business marketing plan.


Effective business marketing is crucial to setting up your home based business for success. However the reason you probably started a home based business was because you did not have much in the way of capital or funds and as result have little to spend on advertising. But you can still get started with an effective business marketing plan-even on a low budget. Here are some ideas for you to consider when it comes to marketing your home based business.


Use your automobile for marketing your home based business. It costs very little to make a large banner and attach it inside the rear window of your vehicle advertising your service, product, and website (if you have a website). You can even have a decal professionally made for a small price. Another thing people do is have magnetic advertising signs that they slap on the sides of their vehicle with the same information. But the rear window really holds a captive audience-especially if they are tailgating you.


Use Email signatures for marketing your home based business. Advertise your product or service on your email signature. It is free.


Make contributions to forums for marketing your business. For example, if your service is web design, participate in one of the many webmaster and web designer forums on the internet by contributing an article giving some technical help to beginners. Include a back link to your website if the forum allows that.


Give away free stuff for marketing your home business. Are you a writer? Give away a free article with the purchase of 10. Are you a software developer? Give away a free utility program. Always include references to your website. Is your home based business the type where you find yourself dealing with the public? Give away some business card calendars (they are really inexpensive). Another free item people like is the business card magnet that they can just post on their refrigerator. People like free stuff. Of course you want to put limits on free stuff but it is an effective way to market your home based business.


Get involved in fund raising events that allow you to advertise. An example of this is a non-profit organization holding a free car wash where those getting their cars washed are handed a bag with advertising flyers. The advertisers give the donations (any reasonable amount) in exchange for their flyers being handed out. The car wash day is busy because people like free car washes and your flyer gets passed out to each of them. The point is that when you get involved in community events, it is a perfect opportunity to advertise your service or product at a minimal cost.


Advertise on free classified directories. Directories such as Craiglist.org are good places to advertise because they are free marketing for your home based business. Some will debate as to their value however the advertising is free so what have you lost other than the time to post the ad? Craigslist warns posters to deal locally as this reduces the risks of scams.

The marketing strategy is to get the word out about your home based business product or service to as many as possible at a minimum cost. You are really only limited by your imagination.

Is A Website Necessary To Make Money On The Internet?


There has been a lot of debate about this question. You basically have two camps. One that says you can't make money on the Internet unless you have your own website, and the other that says that isn't necessarily so.


I belong to the second camp. While a lot of money can be made by having your own content rich website, it is a lot of work. And quite frankly, most people aren't willing to do that much work. Putting up a website with multiple pages, providing your visitors with tons of useful content and also utilizing some means of collecting names and email addresses of your visitors so that you can market to them again and again takes a lot of time, effort and expertise.


The advocates of the "you can't develop online income unless you have your own site" theory either don't know (doubtful) or don't want to admit that you can make a lot of money online without a website of your own.


There are a number of ways to do this. Take Affiliate Marketing, for example. With this, affiliates promote a product for the owner, and receive a commission for each buyer they send to the owner of the product or service. While you can certainly promote a product on your own site, you can also advertise with free classifieds, or PPC sites and send a prospective buyer directly to the owner's sales page.

Another good example of selling online without a website is Ebay. There are thousands of people selling other people's stuff for commission on Ebay and some of them make piles and piles of money doing it. You can buy books that show you how to do that. But that's not what this article is about. I bring it up only to prove that a website isn't necessary to make money on the Internet.

One of the best ways I've found to make money online is to acquire the resale rights to a great product, or group of products and then promote them yourself. It works like this. You find a product that your want and need, and you buy it. The merchant then offers you the resale rights to that same product for a price. If you purchase the resale rights you then have the right to sell this product, not for a commission, but for the full selling price. In other words, if you make even one sale, you have recouped your investment. You keep the entire selling price of the product, not just a commission.

Now, most of the time, this would also require you to have your own website, but some merchants do all the work for you. When you buy the resale rights and download the product, you will get a unique link, similar to an affiliate link, that will take a potential buyer to a sales page that the merchant has developed. However, when someone buys from that page, you receive the entire purchase price through whatever payment method the merchant has set up for this purpose.


This is the kind of deal you should look for. You get 100% commissions for each and every sale you make. Usually, the only thing the merchant gets out of the deal is the contact information of the buyer, which is all he's really after anyway, to build his opt-in list.
