Texas Hold'em - Winning With Position

When playing Texas Hold'em, one of the most important factors to consider is your table position. It is also one of the most overlooked elements in a new player's game. Your position in poker is where you are sitting relative to the "button". As the button rotates every hand, so does your position. Whether or not you decide to play a hand and how you play it should always be heavily influenced be your position.

There are basically 4 positions in Texas Hold'em. These are early position, middle position, late position, and the blinds. Most people consider the blinds late position pre-flop and early post flop, but I prefer to list them as their own separate position for the sake of simplicity. Let's look at the 4 positions and how they should affect your game. Keep in mind, these are fundamental rules and specific circumstances will change the way you play hands in different situations.

Early position in Hold'em is the two positions just to the left of the big blind (BB). This is when you need to be the most careful. Before the flop (first set of community cards) is dealt early position players are first to act. That means that everyone gets to see what you do before they have to do anything. You should petty much stick to playing premium hands in early position. Playing marginal hands here can easily wind up with you trapped in a hand against a monster. I recommend raising with premium made hands (AA, KK, QQ) in early position and raising or limp/re-raising (limping in and re-raising a single raiser) with premium drawing hands (AK, AQ). You should almost always continuation bet the flop unless you know it hit your opponent.

Middle position in Hold'em describes the next two players to act after EP. MP is played a lot like EP, except that you can open up your starting hand selection just a little. Add JJ and suited AJ to the mix here, but be prepared to bow out if things get scary. If an EP player raises, you should fold all but premium hands. If an EP player limps, be careful. He could easily be limping with AK or AQ.

Late position is the player on the button and the player just to the right of the button (called the cut-off position). In Texas Hold'em, late position is king. Here is where you get to open up your game a bit. You can add a much bigger range of starting hands to your arsenal. In fact, if the table folds around to you in late position, you should be raising with any two cards that have good post flop potential. Suited J-10, 88, and suited A9 all start to look really good in late position. You have already seen most of the players act, so you get to use their actions against them. You also get to act after them in the later betting rounds, which gives you an opportunity to outplay them.

One of the most difficult positions to play in Texas Hold'em is the small and big blinds. You already have chips committed to the pot before it is your turn to act and everyone is trying to raise your blind. The good news is that you often have the correct pot odds to call raises, since you already have in the pot. The bad news is that unless you are really really good at playing from the blinds, your position will put you at too big a disadvantage to be able to outplay your opponent post flop. In less you can see a flop cheaply, or have premium hole cards, I would fold.

Texas Hold'em is really all about position. Have a little patience and play according to your position and you can be a winner at the Hold'em table. Good luck!

Is A Website Necessary To Make Money On The Internet?

There has been a lot of debate about this question. You basically have two camps. One that says you can't make money on the Internet unless you have your own website, and the other that says that isn't necessarily so.

I belong to the second camp. While a lot of money can be made by having your own content rich website, it is a lot of work. And quite frankly, most people aren't willing to do that much work. Putting up a website with multiple pages, providing your visitors with tons of useful content and also utilizing some means of collecting names and email addresses of your visitors so that you can market to them again and again takes a lot of time, effort and expertise.

The advocates of the "you can't develop online income unless you have your own site" theory either don't know (doubtful) or don't want to admit that you can make a lot of money online without a website of your own.

There are a number of ways to do this. Take Affiliate Marketing, for example. With this, affiliates promote a product for the owner, and receive a commission for each buyer they send to the owner of the product or service. While you can certainly promote a product on your own site, you can also advertise with free classifieds, or PPC sites and send a prospective buyer directly to the owner's sales page.

Another good example of selling online without a website is Ebay. There are thousands of people selling other people's stuff for commission on Ebay and some of them make piles and piles of money doing it. You can buy books that show you how to do that. But that's not what this article is about. I bring it up only to prove that a website isn't necessary to make money on the Internet.

One of the best ways I've found to make money online is to acquire the resale rights to a great product, or group of products and then promote them yourself. It works like this. You find a product that your want and need, and you buy it. The merchant then offers you the resale rights to that same product for a price. If you purchase the resale rights you then have the right to sell this product, not for a commission, but for the full selling price. In other words, if you make even one sale, you have recouped your investment. You keep the entire selling price of the product, not just a commission.

Now, most of the time, this would also require you to have your own website, but some merchants do all the work for you. When you buy the resale rights and download the product, you will get a unique link, similar to an affiliate link, that will take a potential buyer to a sales page that the merchant has developed. However, when someone buys from that page, you receive the entire purchase price through whatever payment method the merchant has set up for this purpose.

This is the kind of deal you should look for. You get 100% commissions for each and every sale you make. Usually, the only thing the merchant gets out of the deal is the contact information of the buyer, which is all he's really after anyway, to build his opt-in list.

What are the keys to running a succesful home based business? These are a few of the key things I think anyone needs to run a successful home based business. 90 percent of people are not making any money at all with their business. Many things contribute to this but I think the companies are most at fault.

Many companies offer little training on how to properly market for a business. Many of the companies that do offer training offer really bad advice. For example, many companies are still going by the common MLM practice of creating a warm market list and contacting the people off of that list.

This is not practical and does not work at all. Sales and business is a numbers game, in order for any business to work they must consistently market to huge numbers of people. Creating a list of your warm market will not get the job done.

Many times in fact it ends up backfiring, due to all the negative responses received from family and friends. With that being said let's go over what I think are the main elements to creating a successful home based business.

The fastest way to grow any company, is to get on the phone and make sales calls. This is the most direct route you can take and it also works the best.

Many people fear rejection which is why they would rather jump off a cliff than have to make phone calls. Studies show 90 percent of people who are making sales calls to grow their business are making over six figures per year. That stat shows how powerful making sales calls can be.
The next way to grow your company is to advertise. Advertising can range from magazine ads, newspaper ads,Pay Per Click, TV ads, and radio ads.

Posting in free classified ads, I believe is completely ineffective. Yes advertising will cost you money. I believe to have a truly effective advertising campaign going you will need an advertising budget of at least $5,000 a month.

If you don't have the money that is fine, just use whatever amount of money you can put aside to advertise with. Advertising your business is a vital element, which is often overlooked by many business owners. If you are going to be spending on advertising it makes complete sense to hire a professional copywriter to write sales ads for you.

Finally the big craze right now is Internet Marketing. Now yes you can pay for PPC to get your ads placed in search engines but you will at least need $1,000 per month depending on the keyword. I know some people who are spending $10,000 dollars a month on PPC alone.
The other way is to get organic listings in search engines like Google and Yahoo.

The thing to remember with organic listings is it at least takes ,at a minimum, 3 months for your websites to show up. And that depends on what keyword you are going after. Some keywords can take years to get top listings for.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you, period.

Do not exaggerate the numbers, it will only hurt you in the long run. If you are a heavy hitter then this does not apply. But if you are not a heavy hitter you have to be realistic with yourself. You have to see if it is even worth your time, many companies are not worth your time at all.

I will tell you a quick story when I first started out I joined a certain well known company. Well I already had a strong business and marketing background so I was able to add huge numbers to my downline in a short amount of time. By the time I was done after 2 years I had a little over 67,000 people in my organization worldwide. But here's the funny part I was only making a little under 3 grand a month.

The company on the other hand was making a killing. I learned my lesson the hard way. But the comp plan does matter and you should do the numbers before joining up. The only exception to this rule is if you are going to get to work personally with a heavy hitter, then it is better to gain the knowledge from that person.

These are the two most important things to look at when joining any business. Yes the product is important but what good is having the greatest product in the world if you have no way of selling it.

And it is not something that happens overnight, it takes time and money. You see all of the top earners in your company are not anything special, regardless of what they would want you to believe. They know this is a numbers game and they make sure they have the numbers coming in every week.

Many of them spend thousands upon thousands each month on advertising. I know one heavy hitter who spends about $100,000 a month on advertising alone. Needless to say he is making a ton of money. This is what many of the top guru's are doing, spending huge amounts of money on advertising.

This why they are heavy hitters and this is why many people will never make the money they dream about. Many people do not have an extra $100,000 a month to spend, most people don't even have an extra $10,000 a month to spend on advertising. If you do have deep pockets your money should go into heavy advertising and promotion if you are looking to explode your home business.

Now for those of you without deep pockets, you are going to have to come out of your comfort zone a little bit. The next best thing to heavy advertising is getting on the phone and making sales calls. Yes you will have to make sales calls and not one or two sales calls a day. To really get your business off right you should be making 100 to 300 sales calls a day. Monday through Friday and the weekends if you want.

This where most people get suckered into scams. They believe the lies. They believe the company or their upline will do everything for them. That is a straight out lie. If anyone will build a business for me, let me know and I will join. It is just not going to happen.

When you join a business you must be prepared to build you business on your own, it is not your upline's job to build your business for you. Your upline is there to support and guide you. If anyone promises to do all the work for, you can assume they are lying to you.

Now many people cannot make any decent money with MLM's because they are not producing enough numbers. It is all a numbers game. Many people join an MLM company and then told to write a list of their warm market. After they are then told to invite them to a hotel meeting, or a conference call. Most people spend all week trying to get 1 or 2 prospects to sign up. Going after 1 or 2 prospects a week will never build you the downline you will need. There is a high turnover rate with MLM companies people quit all the time. In order for a person to be effective they must have a large number of prospects joining every week. Most people have no clue how to do this which is why they end up failing. There is a stat which MLMer's use, they say the average person who joins a MLM company will only bring in 2 new prospects. Here is a common problem I see with many home business owners. They end up falling in love with whatever home business, product or service they are marketing. Now I am not knocking anyone who is in love with their home business. You know whatever floats your boat. But being too emotional about your home business can actually hurt your business. You see everyone has doubts and everyone has opinated people trying to influence them. The difference between winners and losers is winners stick it out to the end. No matter what happens, no matter how bad things go on, winners stick it out. Losers quit! That is the difference. Winners cut out negative people and add more winners to their social circle. Losers let other losers influence their lively hood. I will not lie to you and say starting a business is an easy road. It is not, there will be ups and downs but everyone has gone through them from Donald Trump to Bill Gates. The difference is they believed in themselves and kept going not matter what happened and no matter what anyone said.

Pretty disheartening...wouldn't you say? Imagine spending $30,000 a year in college and forgetting 90% of everything you learned. Makes you wonder how anybody gets through life. The answer is simple. It's called repetition.

See, in order to really retain anything, we have to go over it again and again and again. This was true with me when I used to memorize speeches for some of the organizations I used to belong to. Some of those speeches took me days to learn. Others took me weeks. The more you have to retain, the longer it will take to retain it.

So let's go back to our site that has all the knowledge in the world about running a business online. The only way we're going to have any real chance of learning everything there is to go over it and then use it on a daily basis. Each day, use a little bit more. Eventually, you will see that your brain has absorbed quite a bit of knowledge. As you do this, and as you use it, you will also see that your business grows. That's when you know that you've REALLY learned all there is...if you could find all the knowledge.
